This store has earned the following certifications.
Founded in 1892 by Albert H. Weinbrenner at the age of 27, the company opened a cobblery in Milwaukee with partner Joseph Peffer to serve "Jobbing" trades. By 1900, the Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. was officially formed. In 1916, the company printed its first catalog and boasted more leather cutting machines than any other in the U.S. The concept of "Job-fitted" footwear was introduced in 1917, and Weinbrenner became a major supplier of boots to the U.S. Army during WWI.
In 1938, the company took its first steps into safety footwear production, and by 1942, they had converted to producing all-military footwear during WWII. This move proved successful as military-style boots became popular with civilians. The year 1943 saw the organization of company workers under the International Boot & Shoe Workers Union, establishing a strong relationship between management and employees that continues to this day.
In 1964, Weinbrenner introduced The Hike n' Camp, the Official Boy Scout Boot, featuring a wedge sole and moccasin-style stitching, which became the company's best-selling boot of all time. Fast forward to 1988 when the company was purchased by a local group, leading to the creation of the "ThoroGard" division specializing in high-tech occupational safety footwear.
To mark its 100th anniversary in 1992, Weinbrenner celebrated "A Century of Lasting Quality" and in 2000, the employees took ownership of the company through Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). The company also demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by donating durable work boots to Ground Zero within days of the September 11 terror attacks in 2001.
In 2014, the brand introduced the 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted, lifestyle boots, showcasing the iconic No. 60 last. The 125th Anniversary of the company in 2017 led to a renewed commitment to upgrading domestic facilities, manufacturing methods, and technology.
Fast forward to 2022, as Weinbrenner celebrates 130 years with the opening of a new factory in Merrill, WI, and the launch of the first western wear product, Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons. Sales continue to rise as Thorogood gains popularity with new styles in the pipeline for the future.
Looking at the product description, all boots featuring a safety toe, either steel or composite, meet or exceed the IMPACT and COMPRESSION testing standards. Additionally, the footwear is electric hazard resistant and slip-resistant, adhering to industry criteria. The oil-resisting outsole is designed to withstand damage due to oil, while the premium oil-tanned full-grain leather boots are American-made with a removable ultimate shock absorption footbed for comfort. The Goodyear welt construction ensures high wear resistance and longevity, making these boots ideal for a range of outdoor and industrial applications.
