In 1892, Albert H. Weinbrenner, aged 27, along with partner Joseph Peffer, opens a cobblery in Milwaukee to serve "Jobbing" trades. By 1900, the Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. is established, and by 1916, the company prints its first catalog, boasting more leather cutting machines than any other in the U.S. In 1917, the "Job-fitted" concept is introduced, and Weinbrenner becomes a key supplier of boots to the U.S. Army during WWI.

In 1938, the company ventures into safety footwear production, and by 1942, celebrates its 50th anniversary by shifting to all-military footwear production during WWII. The military footwear becomes popular among civilians as well. In 1943, company workers organize under the International Boot & Shoe Workers Union, maintaining a strong relationship with management to this day.

In 1964, the company launches The Official Boy Scout Boot: The Hike n' Camp, featuring a wedge sole and moccasin-style stitching, becoming their best-selling boot of all time. In 1988, the company is purchased by a local group, leading to the creation of the "ThoroGard" division focusing on high-tech occupational safety footwear.

Fast forward to 2023, and the company celebrates its 130th anniversary with the opening of a new factory in Merrill, WI, and the launch of the first western wear product, Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons. Sales continue to rise as Thorogood gains popularity with new styles on the horizon.
