In 1892, Albert H. Weinbrenner opened a cobblery in Milwaukee at the age of 27, serving trades with partner Joseph Peffer.
By 1900, Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. was established.
In 1916, the first catalog was printed, and the company had more leather cutting machines than any other in the U.S.
During WWI in 1917, the "Job-fitted" concept was introduced, and Weinbrenner provided boots to the U.S. Army.
The company began producing safety footwear in 1938 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1942 during WWII.
In 1943, company workers organized under the International Boot & Shoe Workers Union, maintaining a strong relationship with management.
The Official Boy Scout Boot, The Hike n' Camp, was introduced in 1964 and remains the company's best-selling boot.
In 1988, the company was purchased by a local group, and the "ThoroGard" division was created for high-tech occupational safety footwear.
On the company's 100th anniversary in 1992, Weinbrenner celebrated "A Century of Lasting Quality."
In 2000, employees took ownership through an ESOP.
Following the September 11 terror attacks in 2001, the company donated boots to Ground Zero.
The 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted lifestyle boots was introduced in 2014.
Weinbrenner celebrated its 125th Anniversary in 2017, committing to upgrading domestic facilities and manufacturing methods.
In 2022, the company marked 130 years in business with a new factory opening in Merrill, WI, and the launch of Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons.
In 2023, sales continue to rise as Thorogood gains popularity with new styles on the way.
