From the brand's humble beginnings in 1892, when Albert H. Weinbrenner, aged just 27, along with his partner Joseph Peffer, launched a cobblery in Milwaukee catering to "Jobbing" trades, to the establishment of Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. in 1900, the company has seen significant growth and evolution over the years.

In 1916, the company printed its first catalog, boasting more leather-cutting machines than any other in the U.S., and introduced the revolutionary "Job-fitted" concept in 1917. Weinbrenner became a key supplier of boots to the U.S. Army during World War I, solidifying its reputation for quality and durability.

As the years passed, Weinbrenner expanded its product offerings, delving into safety footwear production in 1938 and celebrating 50 years in business in 1942. During World War II, the company shifted its focus to producing military footwear, which also gained popularity among civilians.

In 1964, Weinbrenner introduced the iconic Official Boy Scout Boot, the Hike n' Camp, which remains a bestseller to this day. In 1988, the company was purchased by a local group, leading to the creation of the "ThoroGard" division specializing in high-tech occupational safety footwear. By 1992, Weinbrenner was celebrating a century of providing lasting quality.

In response to the September 11 terror attacks, Weinbrenner donated hundreds of pairs of durable work boots to Ground Zero within days of the tragic event, showcasing its commitment to supporting those in need. The company continued to innovate, launching the 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted lifestyle boots in 2014 and celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2017.

In 2022, Weinbrenner marked 130 years in business with the opening of a new factory in Merrill, WI, and the launch of its first western wear product, Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons. Sales continued to soar as Thorogood gained popularity and introduced new styles to meet the evolving needs of its customers.
