In 1892, Albert H. Weinbrenner, aged 27, along with partner Joseph Peffer, opened a cobblery in Milwaukee to serve "Jobbing" trades. By 1900, the Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. was established. In 1916, the company printed its first catalog and became known for having more leather cutting machines than any other in the U.S. The concept of "Job-fitted" footwear was introduced in 1917, with Weinbrenner becoming a major supplier of boots to the U.S. Army during WWI.
In 1938, the company began producing safety footwear, and by 1942, during WWII, they converted to producing all-military footwear. The company celebrated 50 years in business in the same year and gained popularity with civilians. In 1943, company workers organized under the International Boot & Shoe Workers Union, maintaining a positive relationship with management.
In 1964, Weinbrenner introduced the Official Boy Scout Boot, the Hike n’ Camp, which became the best-selling boot and is still available today. In 1988, the company was purchased by a local group, leading to the creation of the "ThoroGard" division for high-tech occupational safety footwear. The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1992.
In response to the September 11 terror attacks, Weinbrenner donated 500 pairs of work boots to Ground Zero. In 2014, the company introduced the 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted lifestyle boots. The 125th Anniversary in 2017 marked a renewed commitment to upgrading facilities and manufacturing methods. By 2022, the company celebrated 130 years with the opening of a new factory and the launch of their first western wear product.
With sales continuing to increase, Thorogood boots have gained popularity for their craftsmanship, innovation, and comfort. The MAXWear Wedge outsole is designed for durability and traction. Made in the USA, Thorogood boots offer extended sizes, metatarsal guards, and various styles to cater to specific job requirements. The 1957 Series Men's 8" Moc Toe boots, made with waterproof materials and shock-absorbing features, are ideal for tough outdoor and industrial applications.
